Ο Michael Morpurgo γεννήθηκε το 1943 στην Αγγλία. Σπούδασε αγγλική και γαλλική φιλολογία στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Λονδίνου και στη συνέχεια δούλεψε ως δάσκαλος για δέκα χρόνια.
