Η Σάλλυ Ρούνεϋ γεννήθηκε το 1991 στο Κάσλμπαρ της Ιρλανδίας και σπούδασε στο Trinity College του Δουβλίνου. Λογοτεχνικά κείμενά της έχουν δημοσιευτεί στα περιοδικά Granta, Dublin Review, The White Review, The Stinging Fly και στην ανθολογία Winter Pages. Το "Συζητήσεις με φίλους" (2017) είναι το πρώτο της μυθιστόρημα. Τιμήθηκε με το βραβείο Νέου Συγγραφέα της Χρονιάς από την εφημερίδα Sunday Times, ενώ επιλέχθηκε ως Βιβλίο της Χρονιάς από τις εφημερίδες Sunday Times, Observer και Telegraph. Το 2018 εκδόθηκε το δεύτερο μυθιστόρημά της "Normal People" το οποίο συμπεριλήφθηκε στη μακρά λίστα για το Μan Booker Prize, ενώ κέρδισε το βραβείο καλύτερου μυθιστορήματος στα Irish Book Awards, καθώς και το Costa Book Award.
